This is Aṣa's sophomore album, Aṣa's first album was super heavy, acoustic guitars and singing about politicians and the weight of the world. Beautiful Imperfection is her finally taking a breath. She drops the moody vibes for big 1960s soul and funk horns. The world is still crazy and relationships are still messy, but she basically just decides to have fun anyway. It feels like she got tired of stressing over the struggle and just wanted to groove. You literally hear her choosing to be happy despite everything. She actually broke down this exact vibe shift in an interview, saying she just wanted to make a record that finally felt uplifted.
