Aṣa (singer-songwriter blending soul, pop, folk,)

Bukola Elemide, known professionally as Aṣa (pronounced "Aasha," meaning "little hawk" in Yoruba), is a highly acclaimed French-Nigerian singer, songwriter, and recording artist. Born in Paris in 1982 to Nigerian parents, she relocated to Lagos at the age of two, where she was heavily influenced by her father's diverse record collection featuring legends like Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, and Aretha Franklin. Aṣa's music is a unique fusion of soul, pop, folk, reggae, jazz, and funk, often delivered in both English and Yoruba. She burst onto the international scene with her self-titled debut album in 2007, a platinum-selling success that introduced her signature introspective lyrics addressing social issues. Her subsequent albums, including Beautiful Imperfection (2010), Bed of Stone (2014), Lucid (2019), and V (2022), have cemented her status as a premier soul music diva and a prominent figure in contemporary African music.
